UNDP: Over 75% of Afghans Face Livelihood Insecurity, 88% of Female-Headed Households Deprived of Basics

The United Nations Development Programme stated in a recent report that more than 75 percent of people in Afghanistan face livelihood insecurity. The organization noted that women account for only 7 percent of employment in the labor market and that 88 percent of female-headed households are deprived of basic needs.
The report highlights challenges exacerbated by Taliban restrictions on women's education and employment since they took power. Experts have warned that these restrictions on women's education and employment endanger their future.
The UN Security Council stated in late December that Taliban policies against women cause more than $1 billion in annual economic losses to Afghanistan. In its report, the council described the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan as "dire," noting that eight out of every ten Afghan women are deprived of education, work, and vocational training.
The findings come amid broader concerns over poverty and restrictions affecting female-headed households across Afghanistan.
