Two Families in Khost End 55-Year Feud Following Local Mediation
Two families in Khost province have formally ended a decades-long dispute that spanned more than half a century, following mediation by provincial authorities and community leaders. The reconciliation took place in the Kundai area of Matun district, bringing an end to a feud between the families of Haji Qasim and Haji Badshah Gul.
Mawlawi Mia Mohammad Wali Sediqi, head of the provincial directorate for borders, tribes and ethnic affairs, stated that the conflict resulted in two fatalities on each side over the course of the dispute. Sediqi noted that the resolution was achieved through coordinated efforts involving his directorate, local officials, religious scholars, tribal elders, and other community representatives.
A formal reconciliation ceremony was held to mark the agreement, during which both families pledged to abandon hostilities and coexist peacefully. Representatives from both sides emphasized their commitment to upholding Islamic principles and traditional Afghan values centered on forgiveness and social unity.
Provincial authorities highlighted the mediation as part of broader efforts to resolve longstanding tribal and community disputes through dialogue and traditional conflict-resolution mechanisms. The directorate for borders, tribes and ethnic affairs continues to facilitate similar initiatives across the province, aiming to prevent further violence and strengthen community cohesion.
The agreement concludes one of the longest-running local disputes in the region, with both families agreeing to honor the terms of the settlement and maintain peaceful relations moving forward.
