New Electricity Meter Testing Laboratory Opens in Logar

The Logar Electricity Directorate has inaugurated a modern laboratory dedicated to the testing and repair of electricity meters. The facility, which marks the first of its kind in the province, was established at a cost of fifty thousand U.S. dollars.

Mir Ahmad Wali Hashimi, the head of the provincial electricity department, confirmed the activation of the new equipment. He stated that the laboratory is equipped to conduct technical inspections on single-phase, simple three-phase, and current-carrying three-phase meters. According to Hashimi, the facility will handle both diagnostic testing and necessary repairs for residential and commercial meters within the province.

The opening of the laboratory is expected to reduce logistical burdens for local residents. Previously, individuals requiring technical verification or maintenance for their electricity meters had to travel to neighboring Paktia province or the capital, Kabul. With the new facility operational in Logar, those services will now be available locally, eliminating the need for cross-provincial travel and reducing associated costs for customers. The laboratory will serve as a centralized hub for meter calibration and fault resolution, supporting the directorate’s ongoing efforts to maintain accurate billing and grid stability.
