The annual traditional Narinj Gul poetry gathering took place in Nangarhar province, drawing thousands of attendees including poets, cultural figures, and enthusiasts from Kabul and other regions. The event was organized by the provincial Department of Information and Culture.

Originally scheduled for the month of Hamal, the gathering was postponed to Sawr following recent heavy rains and flooding that caused casualties and widespread damage across the region. Provincial officials stated the delay was necessary to accommodate recovery efforts and ensure public safety.

During the ceremony, Mawlawi Zabihullah Noorani, head of the Nangarhar provincial Department of Information and Culture, addressed the audience. He emphasized the role of literature and traditional arts in strengthening social cohesion and preserving indigenous cultural heritage. Mawlawi Atiqullah Azizi, Deputy Minister of Information and Culture for Culture and Arts, also delivered remarks, urging participating poets to use their work to promote national unity, resilience, and the country’s broader development goals.

The Narinj Gul gathering has long been recognized as a significant cultural event in eastern Afghanistan, providing a platform for both established and emerging poets to share their work. Attendees recited verses in Pashto and Dari, focusing on themes of heritage, community solidarity, and the enduring strength of local traditions. Organizers noted that the successful hosting of the event, despite recent natural disasters, reflects the region’s commitment to maintaining its cultural calendar and supporting the arts.
