Three Afghan Citizens Executed in Iran, Hengaw Reports

The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights reported that Iran's Islamic Republic carried out death sentences against 14 prisoners, including three Afghan citizens, in various prisons.
According to Hengaw, the Afghan prisoners -- Karim Nazari from Herat, Sayfuddin Mehrban and Nami Kasravi from Baghlan -- had been sentenced to death by Iran's judiciary on charges of premeditated murder and narcotics offenses. They were hanged in the early hours of Wednesday and Thursday, the 8th and 9th of Dalu (corresponding to early February 2026).
Hengaw announced the executions on Tuesday, 21 Dalu. The group noted that as of the report's publication, no state media, particularly those affiliated with Iran's judiciary, had covered the deaths.
Hengaw stated that executions of Afghans in Iran have increased since the Taliban takeover. The organization reported that Iran executed at least 1,858 people in 2025, including 85 Afghan prisoners. In 2024, at least 80 Afghan citizens were executed, with statistics showing a threefold increase compared to 2023.
Iran Human Rights had previously announced a rise in Afghan executions following the Taliban takeover.
