
Taliban Sports Administration Publishes Profile on Muay Thai Champion Mohammad Yusuf Jahangir
The Taliban sports administration has published a Pashto article titled 'From Poverty to Championship' profiling Mohammad Yusuf Jahangir, a Muay Thai athlete who won Afghanistan's first gold medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games.
Jahangir was born in 1376 in Kabul and took up Muay Thai training about 16 years ago. Five years later, he joined the Afghanistan national Muay Thai team and competed successfully in various events.
Despite economic hardships, Jahangir balanced work and training. His father is a baker, and Jahangir works in a small shop selling hygiene products from morning until evening before heading to the gym.
At the 1404 Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia, Jahangir claimed gold in the 75kg category by defeating opponents from Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. This marked the first gold medal for Afghan sports at the event.
Upon returning to Kabul, Jahangir received a warm welcome from Afghans, who relate to his story of overcoming poverty through determination. The profile portrays him as an inspiring figure familiar with the hardships faced by many in Afghanistan.
