The Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), under Taliban control, announced on Wednesday that it has extended its electricity purchase contract from Iran for the solar year 1405.

A DABS delegation led by Mullah Abdul Haq Hamkar, the company's executive director, signed the agreement during a visit to Tehran, according to a DABS statement. The delegation held talks with officials from Iran's Tavanir company, Iran's power transmission and distribution entity, which hosted the trip. Discussions covered expanding electricity transmission infrastructure and importing power to Afghanistan.

DABS stated that joint meetings with neighboring electricity-exporting countries have strengthened cooperation, facilitating improvements in imported electricity supplies. Afghanistan relies heavily on imports, producing only about 200 megawatts domestically while needing around 7,000 megawatts, per DABS. It imports power from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Iran, with Uzbekistan supplying a major share for Kabul and several provinces.

Afghanistan International reported the announcement on 29 Dalu (February 18), while RTA detailed the bilateral talks and Tavanir's invitation.
