The press office of the Taliban governor in Jawzjan province stated on Sunday that Taliban fighters killed four armed robbers in Jalalabad village, part of the first security district of Shiberghan city.

According to the statement, the robbers were in the process of stealing cash and jewelry from a family home when they engaged in a clash with the fighters and were killed. The Taliban said the bodies of those killed were transferred to the provincial hospital in Jawzjan.

The report notes that the Taliban have repeatedly killed former military personnel and opponents, labeling them as members of anti-Taliban fronts or thieves.

Unnamed sources cited in the report claim that in Jawzjan and Faryab provinces, the Taliban are killing a majority of former military figures affiliated with Marshal Dostum, the former vice president, on various charges.

For example, on January 7, the Taliban removed "Yusuf Qomandan," one of Marshal Dostum's former commanders, from a wedding gathering in Khwaja Dukoh district of Jawzjan and executed him by firing squad.

The report also states that while the Taliban have repeatedly claimed to have ensured nationwide security, poverty and hunger have intensified, leading many people to resort to theft out of desperation.
