Taliban announces discovery of green garnet mine in Panjshir

The office of the Taliban governor in Panjshir announced the discovery of a new green garnet precious stone mine in the province for the first time. The office stated that a license for its extraction has been issued.
Sayfaluddin Latun, spokesperson for the Taliban governor in Panjshir, said the mine was found in Abdarah village, Anaba district of Panjshir.
Taliban officials stated that extraction from the mine is expected to play an important role in the economic growth and development of Panjshir province.
Experts noted that since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, mining processes have been conducted without oversight from independent institutions, financial transparency or environmental requirements.
Some Afghan citizens expressed concerns over the looting of natural resources, the confiscation of mines for the benefit of a specific group and the transfer of extracted materials abroad.
The Taliban has focused on mining to offset the reduction in international aid to the Afghan government.
