Sources Allege Taliban Border Fighters Killed Man in Badakhshan for $300,000 Revenge Payment
Unnamed sources alleged that Taliban fighters from a border regiment in Badakhshan province killed a man named Ahmad from Shahr-e Bozorg district in exchange for $300,000 paid by a mafia gang.
The sources said the gang sought revenge, blaming Ahmad for killing their relatives along the Afghan-Tajik border. Ahmad was arrested from his home in Remant village, and Taliban border regiment commanders accepted the payment, according to the claims.
A video shows a man confessing to arresting and killing Ahmad, the sources told Hasht-e Subh.
Taliban fighters buried Ahmad's body in a ravine, where it was later exposed by rainfall, the sources added. One of Ahmad's sons had previously been killed in a land dispute.
The incident occurs amid reports of increased armed killings, violence and revenge cases since the Taliban's takeover, contrasting with their public claims of improved security amid citizens' complaints of ongoing insecurity.
