Seventeen Ancient Artifacts Discovered in Baghlan Province

BAGHLAN, Afghanistan (Afghan Verified) -- Seventeen ancient artifacts have been discovered in various areas of Baghlan province and handed over to the local Directorate of Information and Culture.

Molvi Asadullah Mustafa Hashemi, head of the Baghlan Directorate of Information and Culture, told Bakhtar News Agency that archaeologists from the Ministry of Information and Culture uncovered the items during surveys at the ancient site of Kafir Qala in Sarak 4 of Baghlan Markazi district.

Among the finds are five stone tools from the Kushan period, including a stone hammer, a hand axe head and several broken and semi-finished pieces, Hashemi said. He noted that these artifacts highlight the ancient history and civilization of the area.

In addition, 11 pieces of pottery vessels were collected from the Kafir Qala site in Baghlan Markazi, with one more piece from areas between Sarak 8 and 9, according to Hashemi. Officials from the Baghlan directorate described the items as having special historical and cultural importance.

All artifacts have been officially registered by the archaeological board and transferred to the local museum of the Baghlan Directorate of Information and Culture, Hashemi said. The ministry has collected and registered the items, officials added.

Hashemi emphasized that the artifacts play an important role in understanding ancient periods, particularly the Kushan era. He said the directorate is committed to protecting Afghanistan's historical heritage through identification, registration and preservation efforts for future generations.
