Qalibaf Conditions Iran-US Negotiations on Lebanon Ceasefire, Frozen Assets Release
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf stated that negotiations with the United States cannot begin until two preconditions are met: establishing a ceasefire in Lebanon and releasing Iran's frozen assets.
Qalibaf made the comments on X on Friday.
The statement comes as delegations from Iran and the US head to Islamabad for talks following a Pakistan-mediated two-week ceasefire between the two countries after nearly 40 days of heavy clashes. The ceasefire paves the way for resuming negotiations.
US Vice President JD Vance, prior to his flight to Islamabad, said President Trump instructed the US delegation to cooperate if Iran negotiates in good faith, but to respond more harshly otherwise.
Media reports indicated the arrival in Islamabad of Qalibaf and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. A US delegation led by Vance is en route to the Pakistani capital for the discussions.
