Pakistan's Foreign Minister: Indirect Talks Between Washington and Tehran Ongoing Through Islamabad

Ishaq Dar, Pakistan's foreign minister, has confirmed that indirect talks between the United States and Iran are being conducted through the transmission of messages by Islamabad.

Dar wrote on the social network X that media speculations about peace negotiations to end the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East are unnecessary. He emphasized that these talks are continuing indirectly.

The United States has shared 15 points in the framework of these consultations, which are currently under review by Tehran, Dar said.

Sources in Islamabad told Anadolu Agency that this week is critical for any possible progress in the negotiations between Washington and Tehran. The sources said an American delegation is expected, while Iran is proceeding with caution due to mistrust.

Dar also noted the support of Turkey and Egypt for the initiative. He stated that dialogue and diplomacy are the only way forward for reducing tensions.

Pakistan is fully committed to promoting peace and will continue its efforts to ensure stability in the region, Dar added.

These developments come as tensions in the region have increased following joint US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28. More than 1,340 people, including Ali Khamenei, the former leader of Iran, were killed in those attacks.

In response, Iran carried out drone and missile attacks on targets in Israel, Jordan, Iraq and some Gulf countries where US military facilities are located. The attacks caused human casualties as well as damage to infrastructure and disruptions in global markets and aviation.
