Pakistan Police Detain Three Sisters of Former PM Imran Khan During Rawalpindi Protest

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan — Police in Pakistan detained three sisters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan — Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi — along with other supporters of his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party during a protest outside Adiala jail here demanding his release.

The demonstration occurred amid Section 144 restrictions in Rawalpindi that ban public gatherings. Aleema Khan urged supporters to protest for Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, expressing concerns about their health conditions.

Police dispersed the protesters using batons and tear gas, and blocked roads leading to the jail. PTI leader Sheikh Waqas Akram condemned the police action, describing it as suppression of a peaceful demonstration and highlighting ongoing tensions over Khan's imprisonment and multiple legal cases against him.

Khan and Bibi were sentenced to 17 years in prison in a corruption case in late 2025, according to Reuters. The arrests come amid continued PTI efforts to demand Khan's release from Adiala jail, where he has been held.
