
Over 4,000 Drought-Affected Families in Herat Receive Food Packages and Agricultural Kits
HERAT, Afghanistan (Afghan Verified) -- More than 4,000 drought-affected and vulnerable families in the Herat province districts of Adraskan, Rabat Sangi and Kashk Kohna have received food packages and agricultural kits, according to the Faradatta Social Services Institute (FSCWEO).
The project, funded by the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF), completed its first phase of distributions between March 3 and March 15, 2026, the institute said in a press release. It began in Adraskan district and covered all target areas by the end of the period.
A total of 1,470 families received two-month food rations consisting of 100 kilograms of flour, 8 kilograms of chickpeas, 8 liters of cooking oil and 1 kilogram of salt per package.
Separately, 2,800 families obtained agricultural kits containing one shovel, one pickaxe, one plow and seeds for four types of vegetables: okra, onion, spinach and red radish.
Distributions took place in the presence of the project's technical team, monitoring and evaluation officials, representatives from relevant departments and local elders, the press release added. The aid aims to support livelihoods and strengthen food security for needy families.
Mohammad Homayoun Barkazi, the project manager in Herat, expressed hope that the assistance would improve the food and livelihood conditions of vulnerable families in the areas.
