Mojtaba Khamenei Claims Iranian Victory in Persian Gulf War Despite Ceasefire
Iranian state media quoted a statement from Mojtaba Khamenei, the country's new leader, claiming Iran achieved a "great victory" in the Persian Gulf war despite damages from enemy attacks. The statement was issued on Thursday, marking the 40th day after the death of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Khamenei called on Iranians to continue the marches and gatherings that have been ongoing for 40 days. He said Iran would elevate its management of the Strait of Hormuz to a new level.
The remarks come after nearly 40 days of heavy military clashes between Iran and the United States, followed by a two-week ceasefire mediated by several countries, including Pakistan. High-level delegations from both sides are scheduled to resume negotiations in Islamabad on Friday or Saturday.
US President Donald Trump stated after the ceasefire announcement that Iran will not acquire nuclear weapons and that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open to commercial shipping.
