Lebanese Health Ministry Reports 850 Killed in Israeli Airstrikes on Lebanon Since March 2
The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon since March 2 have killed 850 people, including 66 women, 107 children and 32 health workers. More than 2,100 people have been injured in the attacks, the ministry said.
Hezbollah fired missiles toward Israel on March 2, the first such action since the November 2024 ceasefire, in support of Iran amid its conflict with the United States and Israel. Israel responded with extensive airstrikes in southern and eastern Lebanon as well as the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Fadl Ramida, a member of Lebanon's Civil Defense, described an airstrike around 8 p.m. after iftar: "People were sitting in this room which is now completely collapsed."
Lebanon's Health Minister Rakan Nasr al-Din stated that 12 doctors and aid workers were killed the previous day in Bourj Qalawiya. "Targeting health teams is completely unacceptable," he said.
Displaced Lebanese in the coastal city of Sidon reported a shortage of shelters. Hussein Mortaza, one of the displaced, said: "I didn't find a shelter in the schools of this area; everywhere is full because a large number of people have been displaced. I just want a shelter for myself and my children."
Israel has announced it does not intend to hold direct talks with the Lebanese government in the coming days, despite earlier reports of possible new negotiations between the parties.
