Italy Urges Citizens to Leave Afghanistan Amid Deteriorating Security
Italy’s Foreign Ministry urged its citizens on Tuesday to leave Afghanistan using available commercial flights, citing deteriorating security conditions across the country.
The ministry advised Italians who choose to remain to register their presence and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities. It reiterated calls to avoid non-essential travel and stressed vigilance given the high risk of further escalation.
The warning comes amid rising tensions from cross-border clashes between Pakistan and Taliban forces, including recent Pakistani airstrikes such as one in Kabul.
The Taliban claim the Kabul strike hit a medical facility, killing hundreds and injuring many more, while Pakistan says it targeted nearby militant sites.
Security conditions have worsened in recent weeks due to the clashes, airstrikes and retaliatory attacks. International organizations have warned of increasing civilian casualties as ongoing hostilities continue to impact urban areas and critical infrastructure.
