Islamic Emirate Deputy Minister Calls for Fair Water Sharing at Tashkent Forum
Mujib-ur-Rahman Omar Akhundzada, deputy minister of water and energy for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, participated in the ministerial forum of "Water Week" in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
In a speech on behalf of Afghanistan, Akhundzada emphasized the importance of fair water distribution between Afghanistan and Central Asian countries, strengthening water diplomacy and utilizing modern technologies in water resource management. He called for joint regional cooperation to combat climate change impacts and prevent degradation of the Amu Darya riverbanks.
Akhundzada stated that the Islamic Emirate is committed to the water rights of neighboring countries in managing its resources.
On the sidelines of the forum, Akhundzada met with Uzbekistan's Minister of Water Shukhrat Khomrayev and the two officials discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in water management.
The Ministry of Water and Energy described Afghanistan's participation as an important step toward strengthening the country's active presence in international and regional water issues, potentially paving the way for a new chapter of cooperation with regional countries.
