Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the European Union's new sanctions against Iran as 'illogical, immoral, and illegal' in response to the measures announced on Wednesday, March 11.

Baghaei stated on his X page that the EU aims to punish Iran for exercising its 'inherent right to legitimate defense' under Article 51 of the UN Charter and for resisting what he called the 'brutal and illegal aggression' by the United States and Israel.

He further accused the EU countries of arming, supporting, and enabling 'mass-murdering aggressors,' emphasizing that such a stance amounts to 'active complicity in international law-breaking and heinous and horrific crimes.'

The remarks follow an announcement by Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, that EU member states have agreed to impose sanctions on 19 Iranian officials and entities affiliated with the Iranian government.
