Indian Comedian Rajpal Yadav Jailed Over Unpaid Film Debt as Bollywood Stars Offer Support

Indian comedian Rajpal Yadav has been transferred to Tihar Jail in Delhi after failing to repay debts linked to a 2010 film investment. The comedy production underperformed commercially, leaving unpaid obligations despite attempts via bank cheques.
A Delhi trial court convicted Yadav in 2018, a ruling upheld by the Delhi High Court. Bail was granted in 2024 on condition of repayment, which remained unsettled into late 2025. His bail request is under review by the court.
Several Bollywood actors, including Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Varun Dhawan and Sonu Sood, have offered financial assistance to help resolve his legal issues.
Yadav is known for comic roles in films such as Chup Chup Ke, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Dhol and Ladies Tailor, gaining popularity in India and abroad, including Afghanistan. Born in Uttar Pradesh, he debuted in Shool and later appeared in digital projects like Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery and Thai Massage on Netflix.
Recent reports highlight Yadav's difficulties from prolonged legal disputes, financial pressures and repeated court hearings, impacting his professional commitments and personal stability. The case underscores financial and legal risks faced by entertainers, with industry support now key to his release prospects.
