KABUL (Hasht-e Subh) -- The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) stated in its latest report that millions of people in Afghanistan rely on humanitarian assistance to meet their basic living needs.

The report, released on Monday, noted that widespread poverty, the aftermath of decades of war, and climate-related events such as droughts, floods and earthquakes have eroded family resilience and heightened population vulnerability.

The ICRC highlighted that food insecurity, limited access to health services and shortages of safe drinking water have rendered a large segment of Afghanistan's population dependent on external aid.

In 2025, the organization, in partnership with the Afghan Red Crescent Society, delivered extensive services. These included primary health care for more than 1.2 million patients -- primarily women and children -- across 47 health centers, and the administration of over 337,000 vaccine doses.

Additionally, more than 9,000 children suffering from malnutrition benefited from nutrition programs.

The ICRC emphasized that humanitarian needs in Afghanistan remain extensive and urged the international community to sustain its support to alleviate suffering and bolster the resilience of vulnerable communities.
