WFP Reports 3.7 Million Children and 1.2 Million Women Suffering Acute Malnutrition in Afghanistan

The World Food Programme (WFP) states that 3.7 million children and 1.2 million women across Afghanistan are suffering from acute malnutrition.
WFP reported on Tuesday that rising malnutrition rates are driving more children daily to seek treatment at nutrition clinics supported by the agency in Kabul. The UN agency continues to provide life-saving nutrition assistance to ensure mothers and children access urgent treatment and prevent long-term health damage.
Aid organizations warn that without immediate international support, malnutrition among vulnerable Afghan families could worsen, leading to lasting impacts on children's physical and mental development.
UNICEF has estimated that 942,000 children suffer from severe acute malnutrition, with around 700,000 others at risk of moderate malnutrition.
Years of economic crisis, unemployment, drought and reduced international assistance have weakened household food security, particularly affecting women and children. Rising food prices and limited livelihood opportunities have increased reliance on emergency food and health programs.
Humanitarian agencies emphasize that sustained international funding and access are essential to avert a deeper nutrition crisis as clinics struggle with growing demand.
