
Herat Hosts Exhibition of Quran Calligraphy and Artworks
Herat City in western Afghanistan on Sunday inaugurated a four-day exhibition showcasing calligraphy works, including a handwritten Holy Quran completed by female calligraphers from the province over 16 months.
The event, organized by the Herat Department of Information and Culture in cooperation with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), allocates two days for women visitors and two days for men. Nearly 100 other calligraphy pieces are also on display.
Abdul Jalil Tawana, head of the Calligraphers Association, said the Quran was produced by Herat's female calligraphers.
"This handwritten Quran was completed over 16 months by our women calligraphers," Tawana told attendees.
Mawlawi Abdul Mateen Adil, head of culture and arts at the Department of Information and Culture, highlighted the significance of the artworks on show.
"Around 100 calligraphy pieces are exhibited here," Adil said.
Turkey's ambassador to Afghanistan, Cihad Erginay, visited the exhibition and praised the initiative.
Erginay reaffirmed Turkey's support for cultural programs aimed at promoting calligraphy art and strengthening ties between the two countries.
