Commemoration Ceremony for Abdul Ali Mazari Held in Rome
A commemoration ceremony marking the martyrdom anniversary of former jihad leader Abdul Ali Mazari took place in Rome, Italy, hosted by the Hazara Cultural Center.
The event, titled "Mazari: From Division to Solidarity," drew dozens of Afghan diaspora members and Italian citizens. Organizers, in a statement, said speakers discussed aspects of Mazari's life and highlighted his ideals of social justice, equality of Afghan citizens' rights, friendship among ethnic groups and establishing a legitimate government based on the people's votes.
Sadiqua Mushtaq, president of the Hazara Cultural Center and host of the ceremony, said the center aims to hold such programs to remember the good deeds of figures like Mazari while providing a space for dialogue between the diaspora community and the host society. She added that commemorating such occasions counters the forgetting of Afghanistan's historical events.
An Italian researcher who conducted PhD work on the persecution of Hazaras in Afghanistan stated at the event: "The genocide of Hazaras has occurred slowly but steadily. Through several years of research on Hazaras, I delved into the depth of the disaster and oppression that has befallen them."
Other participants emphasized tolerance, moderation, rejection of extremism and avoidance of enmity among ethnic groups.
