Brazilian footballer Kathleen Souza converts to Islam

KABUL — A 29-year-old Brazilian footballer, Kathleen Souza, who plays for the Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr's women's team, has converted to Islam.

Al-Nassr Women's team announced the conversion on its X account, stating: “We share a special moment in her life with Kathleen Souza by announcing her conversion to Islam, and we ask God to grant her stability and fill her heart with peace and tranquility.”

In a video shared by the team, Souza, visibly emotional and tearing up, said: “I was just trying to find the right path and become the best version of myself, that’s all.”

The Brazilian midfielder also posted photos on her personal Instagram account from a trip to Mecca where she performed the Umrah ritual. Her caption read: “Small steps, finding the right path, looking for change, grateful for the gift of life.”

Souza celebrated her conversion with her teammates at an event held at the club's facilities. She reiterated that she is trying to find the right path.

Kathleen Souza was born in São Vicente, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, and plays for the Brazil women’s national football team, according to the International Quran News agency.
