The Afghanistan Red Crescent Society has announced plans to send 15 patients with serious heart defects to India for specialized treatment.

Officials stated that the initiative will launch as a pilot program due to the unavailability of treatment for complex heart conditions inside Afghanistan. In the first phase, arrangements have been approved for three patients to travel soon, with preparations underway for the remaining patients in need of urgent care.

Twelve additional patients are scheduled to travel in the coming weeks once coordination with medical partners and travel arrangements are finalized. The organization aims to expand cooperation with international partners to enhance access to essential medical services for Afghan citizens.

Many Afghans with complex illnesses face years-long waits for treatment abroad, stemming from limited medical facilities and high costs domestically. Health reports indicate ongoing shortages of advanced medical equipment and trained specialists, forcing thousands of families to seek care outside the country.

The planned transfers provide hope for critically ill patients, though experts emphasize the need for long-term investment in Afghanistan's health sector.
