Afghanistan Polio-Free warns children under five at high polio risk

KABUL (Afghan Verified) -- The Afghanistan Polio-Free institution announced that children under five years old across various parts of the country face a high risk of polio paralysis due to low immunity levels.
In a statement posted on its X account on Tuesday, February 10, the institution stressed the need for these children to receive vaccinations during all campaigns and while traveling between locations by vaccination teams.
The warning comes amid ongoing concerns over vaccine-preventable diseases in Afghanistan's remote and deprived areas, which remain vulnerable to polio outbreaks.
Previously, the World Health Organization announced vaccinating thousands of children in Afghanistan's border regions against polio, measles, and other diseases to safeguard their health.
The United Nations has repeatedly emphasized that regular vaccination, particularly in remote and underserved areas, is vital for preventing polio and similar illnesses.
