Afghanistan National Football Team to Host Myanmar Match in Myanmar

Afghanistan's national football team will host its return match against Myanmar in Myanmar, the third consecutive home game played abroad. Previous home matches were held in Saudi Arabia against Syria and in Kuwait against Pakistan. The match against Myanmar was previously expected to take place in Bangladesh.

The team is in a group with Myanmar, Kuwait, Pakistan and Syria. Afghanistan lost 2-1 to Myanmar in the away match, was defeated by Syria and drew both matches with Pakistan. Syria has qualified with 12 points from four matches, leaving the remaining games without qualification implications.

Media outlets, including Asian Football, have noted surprise at the arrangement, under which both legs between Afghanistan and Myanmar will be played in the same stadium in Myanmar. Such a situation, where a team hosts on the opponent's territory, is rare in national football and other sports.

The team's last training session under its Brazilian coach took place yesterday in Kabul. No details have been released by the Afghanistan Football Federation on the number of invited players or the final squad list.

Afghanistan's final match in this stage will be on 11 Hamal 1405 against Syria, with Syria as the host.
