Afghanistan Continues to Face One of World's Longest Refugee Crises, Ambassador Says

KABUL — Nasir Ahmad Andisheh, Afghanistan's ambassador to Switzerland, stated that Afghanistan is experiencing one of the longest refugee crises in the world.
In a post on his X account on Monday, February 10, Andisheh noted that declining international attention and funding have left Afghan refugees in neighboring countries and internally displaced persons or returnees inside Afghanistan among the most vulnerable and least supported people globally.
Andisheh praised the work of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and urged that Afghanistan and its crisis be placed at the top of international priorities, with increased attention and support for these groups.
He highlighted that recent developments and reduced international resources have intensified pressures on refugees and internally displaced persons, calling for urgent and sustainable support measures.
Conditions for Afghan refugees in neighboring countries, including Iran and Pakistan, have been reported as severely concerning, with hundreds forcibly returned daily without adequate facilities.
