Afghan Activists Urge Melania Trump to Support Women and Girls' Rights

KABUL (Afghan Verified) -- Around 100 Afghan human rights activists and women's rights defenders have sent an open letter to Melania Trump, addressed as the First Lady of America, calling on her to use her influence to support Afghan women and girls deprived of education and public life.

The letter highlights the struggles of Afghan girls who dream of becoming doctors, teachers and journalists but are denied education, mothers facing malnutrition, and women excluded from public life in many communities.

Signatories draw inspiration from Melania Trump's past advocacy, including her efforts to spotlight children harmed by war and her speech at the UN Security Council. They urge her to leverage her platform by encouraging humanitarian support, issuing public statements on girls' education, and meeting with relevant organizations to ensure Afghan women and children are not forgotten amid global crises.

Prominent signatories include Sadeq Amniyati, founder of the US-based Afghanistan Impact Network, and Tahmina Safi, a key member based in France, along with 98 other civil society activists, human rights defenders and advocates for girls' education.

The office of the First Lady has not yet responded to the letter.
