KABUL — The power utility in western Badghis province announced a $2 million project to extend imported electricity from Turkmenistan to 21 villages in Sang-i-Atash district, set for completion within the next five months.

Maulvi Khairullah Khairkhah, head of the provincial Brishna Shirkat, said the initiative will provide access to more than 7,000 families in the district. He explained: “We have resumed work on the incomplete project to connect imported electricity from Turkmenistan to 21 villages of Sang-i-Atash district. God willing, the electricity will be connected and people will benefit from it. The project cost will be covered by the Ministry of Finance.”

Khairkhah added that the project is expected to be completed and operational within five months.

Residents of Sang-i-Atash district welcomed the resumption of work and called on authorities to meet the timeline. Shams-ul-Haq Omari, a resident of Chashma-i-Dozdak village along the transmission line, said: “We are pleased that the work to connect electricity from Turkmenistan has begun, and we ask the government to take it seriously and rescue us from the lack of electricity.”

Another resident, Sabruddin from the same village, stated that electricity would bring significant conveniences and address longstanding community problems.
