US Forces Stop Iran-Linked Sanctioned Tanker Carrying Venezuelan Oil in Indian Ocean
The United States Department of Defense announced that US forces halted a sanctioned tanker in the Indian Ocean that was carrying Venezuelan oil, as part of efforts to enforce maritime sanctions against Iran-linked shipping networks.
According to a Pentagon statement posted on X, the vessel, sailing under the Panama flag, attempted to bypass US sanctions enforcement. US forces tracked the ship from the Caribbean Sea and intercepted it in international waters.
Shipping monitors at TankerTrackers reported that the tanker was transporting nearly 1.9 million barrels of oil originating from Venezuela. The vessel was listed under sanctions connected to Iran, in line with Washington's restrictions on oil shipments linked to sanctioned entities.
The action echoes a similar seizure conducted earlier under policies from President Donald Trump’s administration, aimed at curbing sanctioned oil transport worldwide.
US authorities emphasized continued maritime enforcement to prevent sanctioned networks from operating freely in global shipping routes and energy markets.
