UN's Guterres Urges US, Israel to End War, Calls on Iran to Halt Attacks on Neighbors

BRUSSELS — United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged the United States and Israel to immediately end a war he described as having spiraled out of control, citing severe hardships for civilians.

Speaking at a meeting in Brussels, Guterres said the conflict has caused serious impacts on the global economy and regrettable consequences, particularly for countries with weak economies.

He also called on Iran to stop its ongoing attacks against neighbors and to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for oil transit.

"The time has come for diplomacy to prevail over war," Guterres stated.

The appeal comes as the death toll among Iranian civilians from U.S. and Israeli strikes has reached 3,186, according to reports.
