UNDP: Thousands of Returnees Screened Daily for Tuberculosis at Islam Qala Border
KABUL (Afghan Verified) — The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) reports that health teams at the Islam Qala border examine between 6,000 and 7,000 returnees daily for tuberculosis.
In a report released on Tuesday, UNDP stated that last year more than 650,000 people were tested for the disease and over 50,000 tuberculosis patients received support.
The organization highlighted that tuberculosis remains one of the main health challenges in Afghanistan, with over 200 cases recorded per 100,000 people in 2025.
UNDP emphasized that screening and care for returnees at border crossings form a critical part of national efforts to control and prevent tuberculosis.
These border measures are conducted in collaboration with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, focusing on prevention and treatment in high-risk areas.
