UN Doha Process Aims to Reintegrate Afghanistan but Has Yet to Yield Tangible Results

The United Nations launched the Doha process in 2023 to establish regular dialogues among special representatives on Afghanistan. The initiative seeks to develop a common framework for engagement with the Islamic Emirate and support the country's gradual reintegration into the global community.

Three meetings have been held under the process so far. Political analyst Khalil Ahmad Nadim stated that the meetings have produced no tangible results toward Afghanistan's integration into the international community.

UNAMA has described the Doha process as the main framework for dialogue on Afghanistan's political issues. The mission noted that progress has been made toward a comprehensive approach, though additional efforts are required.

The timing of a fourth Doha meeting has not been announced. In a related development, UN official Rosemary DiCarlo visited Kabul on the fourth of Dalw and discussed the Doha process with officials of the Islamic Emirate.
