UN: Crises Grip People in Palestine, Sudan, Ukraine, Burkina Faso and Madagascar

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) states that medical evacuations from Gaza continue on a daily basis but remain limited.

On Tuesday, February 16, the World Health Organization and its partners evacuated 55 patients and 72 companions over the past two days. Since the reopening of the Rafah crossing, nearly 260 patients have been evacuated out of approximately 18,500 who require treatment outside the area.

In Sudan, drone attacks on civilian infrastructure persist, prompting OCHA to call for the protection of civilians and such infrastructure.

In Ukraine, attacks on energy facilities have led to outages of electricity, heating, and water in the city of Odesa, affecting around 100,000 people.

In Burkina Faso, the United Nations and its humanitarian partners have appealed for $658.5 million to assist 2.7 million people. Shortages of funding and restrictions on access have hindered the delivery of aid to affected regions.

In Madagascar, a storm has resulted in at least 52 deaths, more than 800 injuries, and impacts on over 470,000 people.
