Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban, stated in an interview with the Islamic Republic of Iran's Pashto-language external radio service that Afghans are prepared to cooperate with the people of Iran to the extent of their ability in the event of a potential US attack on the country.

A portion of the interview was published on Sunday, February 15, 2026, on the Pashto website of Radio Iran. Mujahid said in a cautious tone that the Taliban "are not supporters of war," but that they could "cooperate with the Iranian nation" amid problems arising from such an attack.

Iran's Pashto radio site quoted Mujahid as saying that in a "previous US attack on Iran, this country was victorious" and that Iran would succeed again. Afghanistan International indicated this likely refers to the 12-day Israel-Iran aerial war, in which the US participated under Operation Midnight Hammer and targeted several nuclear centers of the Islamic Republic.

Mujahid attributed Iran's prospective success to the capabilities of its system, adding that the country has the right to defend itself.

Tehran has not recognized the Taliban as Afghanistan's official government but has maintained contacts and interactions.
