Yasser Behzad Hosseini, a former Afghan army officer, was shot and killed by unknown armed men on Friday evening, 29 Jauza, in Alqan market near the Shahristan district headquarters in Daikundi province.

The Taliban governor's office in Daikundi issued a statement on 2 Saratan denying accusations of involvement in the killing. The office announced that it is investigating the assassination.

Media outlets close to the Taliban published a video showing the forced confession of Hosseini's father. In the video, the father stated that his son was killed by civilian individuals with no Taliban involvement.

Mohammad Mohaqiq condemned the killing as part of organized and serial killings of former Republic-era military personnel. Nasir Ahmad Faqir stated that former government military personnel are victims of Taliban crimes.

The Taliban has publicly announced it is investigating the assassination of the former military officer while denying any role in the incident through the statement and video. The response includes both a denial of responsibility and a commitment to investigate the matter in Daikundi province. Opposition figures have linked the incident to a pattern of attacks on former military personnel from the Republic era.

Reliability assessment

Single source provides direct on-record statements from named figures (Mohammad Mohaqiq, Nasir Ahmad Faqir) and the Taliban governor's office, along with specific details on location, date, and incident circumstances.

The source language mixes facts with framing or advocacy wording. Afghanistan International: "forced confession", "organized and serial killings", "victims of Taliban crimes" — these phrases introduce opinionated framing and emotional judgment by attributing intent, systematic violence, and criminality without neutral sourcing.
