Taliban Ministry of Defense Accuses Pakistan of Violating Eid Ceasefire
The Taliban Ministry of Defense has accused the Pakistan Army of violating a temporary ceasefire along the border, resulting in the deaths of several civilians.
Taliban Army Chief of Staff Fasihuddin Fetrat stated that the ceasefire was announced by both sides with mediation from friendly countries and that Taliban forces remain committed to it. He said Pakistani forces violated the truce along the Durand border, killing civilians even on the first day of Eid al-Fitr, describing it as evidence of the Pakistan Army's "non-commitment and deception." Fetrat emphasized that Taliban forces have refrained from retaliatory actions so far but warned that continued violations would force a "decisive and tooth-breaking" response.
Local sources reported that Pakistani artillery targeted areas in Kunar province's Naray and Marawara districts last night and this morning.
The temporary ceasefire was announced three days after Pakistan's airstrikes on a drug addicts' treatment center in Kabul, at the request of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey.
Pakistan's Information Minister warned that operations could resume if new attacks occur.
