Taliban in Takhar Force Local Elders to Accept Land Dispute Ruling

Taliban authorities in Takhar province compelled around 100 local elders to sign documents and provide fingerprints accepting a final ruling on an 18-year land dispute in Khwaja Bahauddin district. The elders remained in detention until they complied.
A Taliban delegation led by Takhar deputy governor Hamidullah Arshad traveled to the district to carry out the judicial decision. Arshad said the ruling would be implemented with justice and transparency based on legal findings to deliver rights to the rightful owners.
The land dispute has produced repeated violence and forced displacements since 2021. Recent clashes in Lala Gazar village left at least three women and five men injured after beatings by Taliban forces. Earlier incidents included clashes that wounded 15 people in 2022 and incomplete land allocations affecting at least 70 families.
