Six-Member Gang Arrested for Credit Card Theft and Fraud in Parwan Province
Security forces in Parwan province arrested a six-member group accused of credit card theft and fraud, in which they posed as telecommunications agents and defrauded people using the pretext of fake prizes.
Parwan Security Command spokesman Fazl al-Rahim Muskiniyar announced the arrests on Monday. He said the group had been taking money from victims under false promises of prizes from telecom networks.
A statement from Parwan Police Headquarters said personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department detained the suspects following public complaints and surveillance operations across different parts of the province. The gang operated in an organized manner, collecting large sums from citizens, Pajhwok Afghan News reported.
Authorities seized 40 SIM cards and 19 mobile phones from the group. Pajhwok reported the suspects defrauded people of hundreds of thousands of afghanis.
Islamic Emirate forces assured they would show no leniency toward those aiming to spread corruption in Afghan society, according to Muskiniyar.
Police said the case files are under investigation and will be referred to judicial authorities upon completion.
