Russian Envoy Urges Taliban and Pakistan to Cooperate Against Terrorist Groups
MOSCOW (Afghan Verified) -- Zamir Kabulov, Russia's special representative for Afghanistan, urged the Taliban and Pakistan to cooperate against terrorist groups in Afghanistan instead of pursuing military confrontations.
In an interview with RIA Novosti, Kabulov said the presence of such groups represents a real problem that necessitates joint efforts by both sides.
Kabulov made the comments amid escalating border tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan, which began with clashes in October 2025. Ceasefires have been announced since then, but no lasting agreement has been reached.
Tensions heightened after Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan prompted Taliban military operations along the border on February 26. Pakistan responded to those actions and referenced the risk of "open war."
Pakistani officials have accused the Taliban of failing to take action against Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants. Pakistan maintains that its airstrikes targeted these groups. The Taliban denies harboring terrorists, while Islamabad claims they provide safe haven to the fighters.
