Zalmay Badakhshi, also known as Salman and identified as a key planner of the Daesh Khorasan branch attack on the Kabul Bank branch in Kunduz, was killed by unknown armed assailants in Peshawar, according to Al-Marsad media citing security sources.

Badakhshi fled Afghanistan in October 2025 and joined Daesh activities in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. He was directly responsible for designing the February 2025 attack on the bank, Ariana News reported. That incident on February 11 killed five people and wounded seven others.

Pajhwok Afghan News, citing Al-Marsad, said the attack occurred on the morning of 23 Dalu 1403 (February 2025), killing eight people and wounding others. Mufti Abdul Matin Qanai, then-spokesman for the Interior Ministry, stated that evidence pointed to perpetrators originating from outside Afghanistan's borders.

Al-Marsad also reported additional operations against Daesh: On February 28, laser-guided strikes in Tordara Tirah killed 10 members. On March 1, attacks in Turkani and Narik Ghiljo Orakzai areas killed nine Daesh members, including commanders Abdul Rahman (Abu Nasser) and Mullah Farouqi.
