Rawadari Describes Herat Civilian Shooting as 'Targeted and Organized' Event
The Rawadari institution has described an armed attack on a Shiite religious gathering in Herat province as a 'targeted and organized event.'
In a statement issued on 22 Hamal, Rawadari detailed the incident near the Sayyid Muhammad Agha shrine in Dehmiri village, Anjil district. Unknown gunmen opened fire on civilians attending a Dua Nudba ceremony. The attackers reportedly separated women and children from men before targeting the men, resulting in heavy civilian casualties.
Rawadari condemned the Taliban for a delayed security response, stating that the late arrival of forces contributed to increased casualties and highlighted weaknesses in Taliban security measures. The institution also accused the Taliban of concealing the accurate number of victims.
Rawadari called on the international community and human rights organizations to investigate the attack and take steps to protect religious minorities in Afghanistan.
