Pakistan's PEMRA Issues Security Warning After Cyber Attempt on Khyber Network
Pakistan's Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued a security warning to all satellite TV stations following cyber attempts to disrupt broadcasts, including an incident targeting the Khyber News network.
PEMRA directed TV license holders to strengthen their uplink systems, upgrade encryption protocols, enhance monitoring mechanisms and deploy intrusion detection tools to prevent signal interference and cyber threats. The warning came after recent disruptions to some Pakistani networks, with officials urging immediate reviews of broadcasting facilities.
According to Khyber News, the specific cyber attempt occurred on the night of March 12, 2026, when hackers reportedly active from Afghanistan and supported by India-linked facilitators tried to interrupt the network's live transmission. The network stated its broadcasts continued without interruption.
Khyber News reported that PEMRA's guidelines aim to enable swift identification of suspicious activities. No comments have been received from Afghan or Indian officials on the allegations.
