Pakistani Militant Commander Killed in Failed Rescue Attack
Pakistan’s Counter-Terrorism Department reported that a militant commander known as Osama, also called Baghi, was killed during an attack by his associates aimed at freeing him from custody.
The incident occurred when militants targeted a security vehicle transporting the commander, leading to a fierce firefight that lasted around 40 minutes. According to the department, Osama was killed by gunfire from his own loyalists. The armored vehicle carrying counter-terrorism personnel came under fire, but none of the officers were injured.
Osama led Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen Pakistan, described as a collaboration between the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Gul Bahadur group. During interrogation, he confessed to involvement in nine major terrorist attacks, including the killing of Miranshah’s Deputy Commissioner and three others.
The Counter-Terrorism Department highlighted the incident as an example of ongoing militant efforts to rescue high-profile detainees, with authorities continuing to investigate.
