Pakistan Police Kill Six 'Terrorists' in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Operation
Pakistani police and the Counter-Terrorism Department killed six 'terrorists' during a joint operation in Kohat district's Lachi tehsil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Shabaz Elahi, the Kohat region police commander, said.
Elahi stated the operation was launched following intelligence about a planned large-scale attack in the area. Several rifles were confiscated from the killed individuals, and search operations are ongoing with the area besieged.
Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the police and Counter-Terrorism Department for the operation.
The incident comes amid rising violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where armed groups including Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan have increased attacks on security forces. Last month, six Pakistani security personnel, including the deputy head of Kohat police, were killed in a bomb attack on a police vehicle in the area.
According to the Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies' 2025 annual security report, the number of killed and injured in security incidents in the province rose from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025.
