Norwegian Refugee Council Warns of Humanitarian Crisis for Afghan Migrants in Iran War
KABUL (Afghan Verified) - The Norwegian Refugee Council warned that the ongoing war in Iran has created a severe humanitarian crisis for millions of Afghan migrants.
NRC Secretary General Jan Egeland stated that more than 4 million Afghans in Iran are vulnerable after losing income from informal jobs. He said most migrants are located in cities facing intense attacks and are unable to leave.
Over 35,000 Afghans have returned to Afghanistan since the conflicts began, while more than 1 million remain at risk of expulsion from Iran.
Egeland noted that after one month of U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran, millions of civilians are exhausted or injured. Thousands of houses, hospitals and schools have been damaged, alongside disruptions to internet and banking services.
Nearly 2,700 people have been killed in attacks across the Middle East, with more than half of the deaths in Iran, according to the NRC.
The council warned of a potential broader regional crisis if the war continues and called for increased international aid to both Iran and Afghanistan.
