New Exhibition Hall for Historical Communication Devices Opens at Herat Museum

A new exhibition hall dedicated to historical communication devices has opened at the Ikhtiyaruddin Citadel Museum in Herat, provincial cultural officials announced. The facility showcases a collection of 750 vintage telecommunications instruments, with the oldest items dating back approximately 120 years.

Maulawi Abdul Matin Adel, Director of Culture and Arts at the Herat Provincial Department of Information and Culture, confirmed the opening and outlined the project’s objectives. He stated that the exhibition is designed to educate the public, particularly younger generations, about the evolution of communication technology in Afghanistan. According to Adel, preserving these artifacts serves as a vital step in safeguarding the country’s scientific and cultural heritage for future study.

The collection spans over a century of technological development, featuring various instruments that illustrate the progression of communication methods. Officials noted that the display aims to provide visitors with a tangible understanding of how these systems have evolved over time.

Local visitors and cultural representatives have welcomed the initiative, emphasizing its educational value. The Herat Provincial Department of Information and Culture indicated that the exhibition will remain open to the public, with plans to incorporate guided tours and informational materials to further contextualize the historical significance of the displayed items.
